Services

V.A.S provides hospitals, rehabilitation and long term care facilities, nursing homes, and other healthcare organizations the following services:

  • Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter Insertion (PICC) and Midline Catheter Insertion utilizing Modified Seldinger Technique (MST) with ultrasound guidance and maximal barrier precautions for all insertions.

  • Ultrasound Guided IV Insertion

  •

Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC)

A peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC), is a true central line with the catheter tip residing in the superior vena cava (SVC) in close proximity to the cavoatrial junction (CAJ). It is a form of intravenous access that can be used for a prolonged period of time (e.g., for certain chemotherapy regimens, extended antibiotic therapy, or total parenteral nutrition) or for administration of caustic substances that should not be given peripherally. It is a catheter that enters the body through the skin (percutaneously) at a peripheral site most often in the upper arm.

Midline Catheter

A midline catheter is a peripheral IV with the catheter tip residing at the beginning of the axillary vein in the shoulder area. It can dwell for up to 29 days. Midlines are used for medications or fluids that do not irritate veins.

Ultrasound Guided IV Insertion

Ultrasound is utilized to gain peripheral venous access for patients considered to be a "difficult stick". Ultrasound eliminates multiple IV start attempts and decreases patient discomfort and infection risks for the patient.

Education

We provide education to client leadership and nurses around proper line assessment, routine care, and maintenance. Increasing staff proficiency can help eliminate the need for our service, eliminating unnecessary cost and patient inconvenience.

Policy Review and Updating

Our partners may find themselves in a situation where a policy is expired or outdated without internal resources that possess this knowledge. We are happy to review and update any policy regarding vascular access to eliminate risk in the event of a site inspection or audit.
